Basilicata Coast to Coast by Bike: from Matera to Maratea

Day 1 - Distance: 70 km

Delivery of the ebikes and meeting with the cycling guide in Matera for the customary photo from the Belvedere towards the Sassi. The tour begins through the town in the direction of Lake San Giuliano, on the provincial road leading to Metaponto.

We then cross the Basento Valley to the farmhouse where accommodation and overnight stay are planned.

Day 2 - Distance: 74 km

Breakfast. Departure through the badlands across the moonscape to Craco Vecchia, the abandoned village chosen in the 1970s as the film set by Mel Gibson for his famous The Passion.

Then begins the ascent towards Aliano, the village where Carlo Levi was forced into exile by Fascism, and continues into the Val D'Agri among orchards until arrival at an agritourism farm. Accommodation in room, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3 - Distance: 54 km

Breakfast. Passing through the mountains, at 1200 metres on the Castelsaraceno pass through two parks: on one side Monte Raparo (1764 metres) and on the other Monte Alpi (1905 metres). The descent is a hymn to joy: long, airy and panoramic, it never seems to end. We then reach Lake Sirino. Accommodation in a hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4 - Distance: 33 km

Breakfast. From the lake we descend to the bottom of the Noce valley and immediately climb up to the Tyrrhenian Sea: the final descent ends on the beach at Maratea with a liberating plunge.
